Trigger warning for child abuse
The headline kind of speaks for itself: Parents Allegedly Starve Baby Because of Obesity Concerns. The father had heart surgery at 25 for a blocked artery and the family follows a low cholesterol diet. I don't know how that translates into 'don't feed your infant' but apparently it does. But hey, it's ok, at least she wasn't getting FAT.
What we have here are the very real consequences of an entire society obsessed with weight. It's not helping anyone, only hurting them, especially our youngest and most vulnerable citizens. Failure to thrive doesn't just affect our babies though, it affects ALL of us who are wasting time and energy trying to fit into narrow definition of healthy and beauty. This has got to stop, but how?
I read that article a few days ago, like you I was stunned. Of course this doesn't get the media attention that the "obesity epidemic does". Like you, I don't quite know what to say. As an adult I can stand up for myself. But you really get my hackles up when you go after kids and infants. WTF
